NAHS Alumni Association Honors Eight Individuals at Third Annual Awards Banquet
By Mitch Mac Donald '79

Over 100 friends and family of our community and our high school gathered May 8 at the North Attleboro High School Alumni Association's 3rd Annual Awards Banquet to honor eight individuals whose dedication, service, and accomplishments remind us all of the tremendous work and wonderful people who make North Attleboro High School a very special place.

Among those honored were Dr. David Christianson ('79) and the late Clayton Dietz ('41). Both received the Joseph W. Martin, Jr. Distinguished Alumni Award, named after the distinguished graduate of the class of 1902. The award is given annually to recognize the outstanding professional, personal and civic achievements of the men and women graduates of North Attleboro High School.

Dietz, a World War II veteran who passed away on March 26, was a Brown University graduate who enjoyed a remarkable career in international banking, having worked in Brazil, New York City, and several countries on the Asian and African continents. David Christianson, PhD, is the Roy and Diana Vagelos Professor in Chemistry and Chemical Biology at the University of Pennsylvania, where since 1988 his research interests have focused on the structure, mechanism, and inhibition of metal-requiring enzymes. He has published more than 150 papers in this area.

Richard Beaudoin, PhD, Class of 1993, received the Young Alumni Award, created to honor the achievements of those graduates within the last 20 years who have distinguished themselves by their achievements at a particularly early age in their professional, personal or civic endeavors.

Educator Excellence Awards were presented to Elaine Bedard ('69), Judith E. Cobb, Jim Frutchey and Ed Shockro. All four served more than three decades in the classroom at NAHS, and have left a lasting positive impression on literally thousands of students.

Finally, the Association presented an Honorary Alumni Award, posthumously, to Mr. Jack Fitzgibbons, Sr., father of five NAHS graduates who in his life was among the most ardent and dedicated supporters of the school's students, athletes, and programs.

The NAHS Alumni Association will be hosting a Fundraising Event this
Fall. Enjoy good competition and great company during our
"Trivia Night" in October . . . but the question is,
Are You Smarter than a Ninth Grader?!
